Margaret Louise (Bond) Shafer Mason Margaret, age 84, died March 4, 2010. She was born May 1, 1925, in North Shade Township, MI, and was the oldest child of Hubert I. and Metta "Betty" (Bieri) Bond. Margaret married Theodore "Ted" Shafer on December 15, 1945. Margaret, Ted and their six children were charter members of All Saints Lutheran Church in Mason. In addition to raising her children, Margaret operated a daycare from her home for many decades. In her 60s, she went to work for Kids Clubhouse for the Mason Public School system. Margaret loved to do crafts, namely painting, sewing, quilting and embroidery. This passion was best realized in her work with the quilting circle at All Saints, where she helped make quilts to be sold in fundraisers or donated to local charities. Margaret was a humanitarian and a founding member of M.E.R.C.I., an organization that helped refugees establish their lives in the States. Margaret loved to spend time with her family and friends, and her love of cooking and baking was legendary. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted (2002); eldest son, Michael C. (2004); and three nephews. She is survived by: sons, Jon Patrick of Lansing, Timothy D. (Jo) of Brandon, FL, Kevin B. (Kieran) of Rockford, MI, Jeffrey R. of Lansing; daughter, Coleen (Steve) Fox of Garland, TX; daughters-in-law, Debra and Susan of Mason; godson, William Taylor; grandchildren, Richard (Corinne), Meaghan (Mike), Clayton, Ian, Jason, Nick, Zack, Audrey, and Sean; great-granddaughters, Lucy and Gwyneth; sisters, Jan Harrington of Reston, VA and Kathryn Downing of Palm Springs, FL; brothers, John (Jenny) Bond of Mason and Carl (Carolyn) Bond of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2010, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 720 W. South St., Mason, with The Rev. Charles Foerster, Pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing. The family will receive friends for a celebration of Margaret's life at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, from 2-6 p.m. Sunday.
